Showtime plans to keep the original-programming lights on this summer with two original series -- returning dramedy "Dead Like Me" and the new unscripted show "American Candidate."

"Dead Like Me" is set to return Sunday, July 25, the network says. It will pick up the story of Georgia "George" Lass (Ellen Muth), an unmotivated 18-year-old who dies unexpectedly but finds work and a purpose in the afterlife, where she becomes a grim reaper.

Mandy Patinkin, Laura Harris ("24"), Jasmine Guy and Callum Blue play George's fellow reapers. The second season will pick up George's story as she continues to adjust to the rigors of her new career.

The following Sunday, Aug. 1, Showtime will roll out its long-gestating reality series "American Candidate." Over the course of 10 episodes, a group of contestants will take part in a political campaign that will mirror the real-life presidential race. Viewer voting will determine which of the would-be officeholders deserves the title.

Emmy winner and Oscar nominee R.J. Cutler ("American High," "The War Room") is executive producing the show.
